Rising Material Issues (Quality Fade)

Many manufacturers in China are confusing material identities by branding their domestically produced materials with names established by other standards. AISI 201, for example, is a type of stainless steel, of which standard is established by AISI (American Iron and Steel Institute), that requires a minimum Nickel content of 3.5% by weight. Many Chinese manufacturers have applied the same name to lower grade stainless steel; misleading buyers into buying lower quality products while seemingly saving them money. 889 Global Solutions Ltd. has been insisting on getting material report from the manufacturers prior to each purchase order, clearly identifying chemical compound of the material. Besides getting material certificate from manufacturer, we also withdraw samples from production line during our standard product inspections and send the samples to a third party testing lab for chemical compound analysis to ensure product quality.

Selecting the Right Material for Your Product

Part of 889 Global Solutions’ consulting services includes identifying the right material for your product. At times we would get requests from our customers asking for recommendations of the ideal material that can be used for their products. Our manufacturers in China have vast knowledge on materials and professional engineering background. In order to determine the right material, we ask our customers the applications of their products, the environments / conditions in which the products are used, etc. Then we provide a list of options to our customers, detailing each material’s characteristics, pros and cons. This service has help our customers decide what materials are to be used for their products, and sometimes even improve their original engineering design.

Beijing Olympics 2008

Beijing was elected the host city on July 13th, 2001, during the 112th IOC Session in Moscow, beating Toronto, Paris, Istanbul, and Osaka. The Chinese government has promoted the games to highlight China’s emergence to the world stage. The shutdowns of factories and its tightening control around its capitol city Beijing will not largely affect the country’s manufacturers since most of them are located south of Hebei province (the region where Beijing is in).

Constructing a Better Economic Engine

With its economic success, China has increased constructions nationwide, promoting its infrastructure to the next level – completing the Qingzang Railway that’s connecting China Proper with Tibet, building Hangzhou Bay Bridge that connects the two busiest ports (Shanghai and Ningbo) are just a number of examples. China had also invested 350 billion Yuan (43 billion USD at the time it was invested) in 2003 in highway construction; by the end of 2004, the total length of highways open to traffic reached 1.871 million km, including 34,300 km of expressways up to advanced modern transportation standard, ranking second in the world. These highways will stretch further into inland China than just its coastal regions, improving its connections with its less developed regions, creating more economic opportunities.

2008 Sichuan Earthquake

The 2008 Sichuan Earthquake that was measured 7.9 Mw occurred on May 12, 2008 in Sichuan province – it is the strongest earthquake that hit China since the 1976 Tangshan Earthquake. The rapid responses and rescue effort performed by the Chinese government were praised by western media, including opening up media and accepting outside relief efforts. The earthquake did not largely affect China’s manufacturers as most of them are located on the eastern coastal regions.

Quality Control

In response to recent recalls of products from China, 889 Global Solutions Ltd. has tightened its production inspection and quality control procedures. On top of our during production inspection, we added post production inspection on every shipment before it leaves China. Besides having its own representatives in different regions inspecting goods and qualifying manufacturers, we also contract third party inspection companies and laboratories. At each inspection we randomly withdraw samples from production line and send them to a credible laboratory for chemical composition analysis, making sure the material both qualifies customers’ specifications and does not contain any harmful chemicals. We check and ensure that the both the standards of the products and customers’ requirements are met before the shipments leave the factories. One of the fundamental requirements we insist during our sourcing process is that the manufacturer has to at least have ISO 9000 qualification. On top of that, a specific manufacturer we qualify has to produce goods according to its required standards, ASTM, SAE, NSF, UL, USDA, etc.
